FPC@UFBA - Fraunhofer Project Center for Systems and Software Engineering
Fraunhofer Project Center for Systems and Software Engineering (FPC@UFBA) - The Fraunhofer Society (http://www.Fraunhofer.de/EN/) is a nonprofit institution with a third of its funding provided by the German Government and the other two thirds obtained from projects with industry and government agencies. It is the leading institution for applied research in Europe, has close to 20,000 employees, operates in the major areas of engineering and computer science, and is recognized as a world model in fostering technology transfer between university and industry. This project establishes the Fraunhofer Project Center for Systems and Software Engineering (FPC) at UFBA. The FPC is a research and development group, located at the Technological Park of Bahia, in association with the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering in Germany. The FPC includes scientists from Brazil and Germany, and focuses on applied research and its transfer to local and global industries. The FPC is the first step towards the establishment of a Fraunhofer Center, a Fraunhofer legal entity, in Brazil. It operates using the Fraunhofer business model, fostering close collaboration between academia and industry. The FPC@UFBA is the first of its kind in Brazil. Within the FPC, Fraunhofer and UFBA intend to collaborate in the following technical areas: 1. Software engineering processes, methods and techniques for critical systems; 2. Software architecture (e.g., product lines and service-oriented architectures) for large systems; 3. Maintenance, evolution and reengineering of large systems; 4. Decision support systems for the energy industry (oil, gas and electric power); 5. Critical systems for the energy industry (oil, gas and electric power); 6. Open software systems for e-Government; 7. Product and process certification for suppliers of e-Gov systems; 8. Software technologies for assisted living systems; 9. Large-scale field studies, aiming at the assessment of assisted living concepts and technologies.
